Seminar brings together specialists to debate water and sewage indicators
On December 5, FGV’s Group for Research on Infrastructure and Environmental Economics (GEI-SA) will host a debate on “Water and sewage indicators.” The event will take place in FGV EESP’s 6th-floor auditorium at Rua Itapeva, 474, Bela Vista, Sao Paulo, at 8:30 am, and it will feature public officials and specialists in the subject.
Brazil has a National Sanitation Indicators System (SNIS), managed by the Regional Development Ministry’s National Environmental Sanitation Secretariat. Based on data compiled by SNIS, nationwide water and sewage indicators are publicly disclosed to show the size of the challenges that Brazil still faces in the area of basic sanitation.
SNIS is one of the sources most widely used in Brazil by the sector itself, civil society, government authorities and the press, and discussions are under way about possible improvements to make it easier for society to understand and verify the statistics.
