Specialists talk about anti-fascist Brazilian soccer fans
On November 6, FGV CPDOC’s Laboratory for Sports Studies will hold a webinar called “Politics in Soccer Stadiums: Research on Anti-Fascist Soccer Fans in Brazil.” The event will be broadcast live on FGV’s YouTube channel, as of 2 pm.
The months of May and June 2020 saw the emergence of organized soccer fans who support Antifa, a movement that has gained public attention for its riots and protests. Together with other social players, anti-fascist fans have participated in demonstrations in large Brazilian cities and took a political stand in the face of the current situation that Brazil and the world are going through during the pandemic.
In this context, this webinar will discuss what is scientifically known about these groupings, the national and international influences that shape them, and how interest in political participation and soccer is coordinated.
The event will feature Felipe Tavares Lopes of the University of Sorocaba, Caio Pinheiro of Ceará State University and Nathalia Borges of the Federal University of Rio de Janeiro State. The moderator will be Professor Jimmy Medeiros of FGV CPDOC.
