Study on robots presented during international forum in Colombia
FGV’s Department of Public Policy Analysis (DAPP) was invited by the Bogota office of the National Democratic Institute (NDI) to attend the forum titled “The challenges of democratic innovation and integrity of information in the age of disinformation”, held on June 6. Held in partnership with Latin American organizations, the event brought together groups involved in the subject of disinformation of civil society and academia to share experiences and brainstorm possible solutions.
Researcher Ana Freitas presented DAPP’s study in the data viewing area, such as the Câmara Transparente and Monitor de Temas platforms, as well as in monitoring debate in social networks – specifically presenting the study titled Bots, social media and politics in Brazil.
The study identifies and analyzes the involvement of automated accounts in manipulating debates in social media, especially during turning points for the country’s politics. In addition, a network analysis was also presented on the dissemination of fake news associated to Marielle Franco, city counselor of Rio de Janeiro who was killed in March.
The panel titled “How can the creative use of technology be used as an instrument to rebuild trust in institutions?” also included representatives from the Change online petition website, as well as the citizenship platforms SeamOS Democracia Digital and Movilizatorio, both based in Colombia.
