Webinar discusses education challenges during coronavirus pandemic
On March 27, the FGV´s Sao Paulo Law School’s Center for Education and Research in Innovation (CEPI) will hold a webinar called “Education: Reconstructing paths and learning from adversities.” The aim of the event, which will be posted on YouTube, is to debate and take questions from students, professors and employees from education institutions about the education system’s challenges in light of the novel coronavirus pandemic.
UNESCO estimates that the closure of education institutions due to the pandemic now affects half of the world’s students – 890 million in 114 countries. Virtual teaching is now a new routine for some students, though there are huge challenges surrounding it. Meanwhile, for other students, this type of education isn’t yet possible, given the social inequality present in many countries, including Brazil.
The webinar’s participants will include Professor Oscar Vilhena, the dean of the FGV´s Sao Paulo Law School, who will talk about restrictions of rights and the role of law in the crisis, besides addressing the pandemic’s challenges and social dimension. Professor José Garcez Ghirardi, also of the FGV´s Sao Paulo Law School, will discuss the crisis’ impacts and opportunities for education. Psychologist Heloisa Ditovo will explore issues related to mental health, such as loneliness, confinement and fear during the crisis. The event will be moderated by Professor Marina Feferbaum, CEPI’s coordinator.
Students, professors and employees from different education institutions can submit their questions using this form until Wednesday, March 25. The webinar will be posted on the
FGV´s Sao Paulo Law School’s YouTube channel on Friday, March 27.
