Webinar discusses need for new public pension reform
Fundação Getulio Vargas’ Brazilian Institute of Economics (FGV IBRE), in partnership with the newspaper Folha de S. Paulo, is holding a webinar called “A New Public Pension Reform” on June 12, at 10 a.m., on FGV’s YouTube channel.
During the next administration or in the 2030s, Brazil will require another reform of the social security system, to change certain parameters related to old-age pensions, gender differences, farming worker retirement rules and the system for granting welfare benefits. These factors were generally left aside or only partially dealt with five years ago, but the present arrangements will not be sustainable going forward.
The event will also address the fiscal burden represented by the current minimum salary policy, as well as the importance of this future reform being preceded by technical debate, as happened between 2016 and 2019.
The speakers will be Fábio Giambiagi, associate researcher at FGV IBRE; and Paulo Tafner, CEO of the Mobility and Social Development Institute. The moderator will be Adriana Fernandes, special reporter and columnist for Folha de S. Paulo.
