Webinar discusses power sector reform during COVID-19 pandemic
On August 14, Fundação Getulio Vargas’ Center for Regulation and Infrastructure Studies (FGV CERI) will hold a webinar on the electricity sector. The speakers will be Marisete Dadald, the Mining and Energy Ministry’s executive secretary; Sandoval de Araújo Feitosa, director of the National Electricity Regulatory Agency (ANEEL); and Senator Marcos Rogério. The event, called “Power Sector Reform and Regulation During the COVID-19 Pandemic,” will be moderated by Joisa Dutra, the director of FGV CERI and coordinator of FGV EPGE’s Professional Master’s Program. The event will be broadcast live on FGV’s YouTube channel, starting at 4 pm.
The aim of the meeting is to explore the sector’s global transformations and their impacts on Brazil, as well as decentralization and digitalization processes, including changes imposed by the COVID-19 crisis, such as social distancing measures, which have reduced power demand and caused severe income and job losses.
The event will also look at subjects such as the COVID Fund, the expansion of the Subsidized Electricity Program, the suspension of disconnections for nonpayment, the postponement of increases in charges, tariff reviews and the prices paid by large users.
