Webinar discusses water shortages, sanitation and climate change impacts

Fundação Getulio Vargas’ Center for Regulation and Infrastructure Studies (FGV CERI) is holding a webinar called “Overseas Dialogues: Water Shortages.” The meeting will debate the impacts of climate change, which have worsened the preexisting problem of shortages of high-quality water, especially in areas of high consumption. The event will take place on October 26, at 2 pm, on FGV’s YouTube channel.

This is the first webinar in a series titled “Overseas Dialogues,” which will discuss subjects related to sanitation and paths to better management in this sector in the Iberian Peninsula and Brazil.

More than ever, water permits need to consider different uses within a river basin, aligning criteria and timeframes with multiple uses and their importance. Water reuse, negotiated allocations and other topics are also part of this agenda.

The webinar will be moderated by the director of FGV CERI, Joisa Dutra, and FGV CERI associate researcher Luiz Firmino. The speakers will be the business development director of water company Águas de Portugal, Carlos Martins, and the president of Brazil’s National Water and Basic Sanitation Regulatory Agency, Verônica Sánchez da Cruz Rios.
