Winner of award considered Nobel of Education discusses teacher appreciation
Valuing teachers is a key condition for improving public education. In order to reflect on the importance of the role of these professionals and their appreciation, the Center for Excellence in Innovation and Policy (CEIPE) of FGV’s Brazilian School of Public and Business Administration (EBAPE) brings for the first time to Rio de Janeiro the Kenyan teacher Peter Tabichi, winner of the 2019 Global Teacher Prize, considered the Nobel of Education.
The teacher will be presenting his work in the African country, in an event to be held on July 6 at the FGV Cultural Center (Praia de Botafogo, 186, Botafogo, Rio de Janeiro, RJ). The Varkey Foundation, the institution responsible for the award, will be represented by regional director Agustín Porres. José Couto Júnior, winner of the 2018 “Educator Nota 10” award, will also participate in the event. The history professor and current municipal school director in Rio de Janeiro will be showing what made him win the title. Claudia Costin, Director of CEIPE, will be the first speaker.
The seminar aims to encourage reflection and raise awareness about the need to further deepen the debate and create practices that value teachers. At the end of the presentation of the four participants, mediator Talita Nascimento will open the session of questions and answers to the public.
