Work by female FGV students about women’s soccer rated in global top three by FIFA study center
A final paper about the management of women’s soccer, written by female students at FGV, was rated the third best in the world by the FIFA International Center for Sports Studies (CIES), which supports a sport management course at 17 universities across the world.
The paper, titled “Women’s soccer – a study of national and international situations and possible ways to develop the sport,” was written by Camila Macedo Mariano, Isabela Aarestrup de Aquino e Sousa, Kelly Cristina Resende Teixeira, Luana Ferreira and Marina Cardoso Junqueira. It presents the lag in investment and development of new talents in Brazilian women’s soccer. The main purpose of the study was to illustrate the sport’s situation in Brazil and compare it with other soccer powers in order to create a project to raise the profile of local women’s soccer groups in Brazil.
During the FGV/FIFA/CIES Sport Management Course, students study topics in the area of sports management, such as marketing, communication, law, finance and strategic management, combining theory and practice for the development of enterprising leaders with a strategic, administrative and management vision applied to sport.
The students’ final papers encompass all the course’s subjects and they are evaluated by a committee made up of the course’s academic coordinator, the professor responsible for teaching methodologies for constructing the paper, and a representative of CIES. After all the presentations have been made, the CIES representative chooses one paper to compete against those produced at partner education institutions.
