Yellow September: awareness-raising events to promote life in Sao Paulo
As part of an awareness-raising campaign to prevent suicides and promote life, the Professional and Emotional Guidance Program run by the FGV´s Sao Paulo School of Economics (FGV EESP) will be hosting three talks in September. On the 23rd, there will be two presentations: “We need to talk about mental health and suicide prevention,” for students; and “How to spot signs that your friends or children need you,” for parents. On September 26, there will be a talk called “I look after myself.” The talks are intended to assist students with regard to university life and teaching methods, help prepare them for their professional lives and build their careers, give them personal knowledge and make them more resilient.
In the talk called “We need to talk about mental health and suicide prevention,” psychologist Karen Scavacini will address subjects to help students cope with emotional stress and support people at risk. The presentation will also advise students on what to do if they don’t feel well and suggest some ways to promote mental health and prevent suicides. She will also run a session for parents to help them identify mental disorders and suicide risks.
On September 26, Juliana Fleury of the Association for the Emotional Health of Children (ASEC) will talk about the importance of self-care within the context of collective action. According to her, it is essential nowadays to use opportunities when people come together to promote broad reflection on the need to expand our repertoire of internal resources to deal with difficulties and to improve our mental and emotional health.
