Chamber FGV of Mediation & Arbitration
Created after the reformulation of the Brazilian Institute of Arbitration, as per Law nº 9,307/96, the main function of the Chamber FGV of Mediation & Arbitration is to manage and monitor the arbitration process, ensuring that all phases and deadlines are met in accordance with the law.
Another important function of the Chamber is mediation, which unlike arbitration, provides for an agreement between the conflicting parties with the assistance of a third party. The mediation phase can precede arbitration and, if the agreement is accepted by the parties, there will be no need for a trial (arbitration).
Chaired by the President of FGV, the Chamber has two directors and, in the permanent body of arbitrators, people of excellence in the field of law – experienced lawyers and highly trained professionals on a broad range of topics, from civil engineering to foreign trade, telecommunications and oil and natural gas. Within the fields of Economics, Finance and Administration,
the Chamber's permanent body of arbitrators is made up of FGV professors from FGV Schools – Sao Paulo School of Business Administration (EAESP), Brazilian School of Public and Business Administration (EBAPE) and EPGE Brazilian School of Economics and Finance (EPGE).
