After two years of deep recession, in 2017 the Brazilian economy began a timid process of resumption. However, the fragility of the country's public accounts threatens economic recovery. Fiscal consolidation is necessary to ensure the sustainability of growth, as well as to preserve the significant gains of the last decades in terms of low inflation and inclusive growth. However, what should the size of fiscal adjustment be?
How should the composition of adjustment be? And what would the short-term costs be for securing long-term gains?
The seminar, promoted by FGV EPGE Brazilian School of Economics and Finance and the World Bank, aims to bring together experts to discuss the fiscal adjustment agenda in Brazil.
