10th Annual Monetary Policy Seminar welcomes president of Brazilian Central Bank

The Center for Monetary Studies at Fundação Getulio Vargas’ Brazilian Institute of Economics (FGV IBRE) is holding the 10th Annual Monetary Policy Seminar, whose keynote speaker will be the president of the Brazilian Central Bank, Roberto Campos Neto. This public event will be livestreamed on FGV’s YouTube channel on May 24, starting at 2 p.m. The seminar will also include a tribute to economist and professor Affonso Celso Pastore, who died in February of this year.

Pastore long maintained both interpersonal and professional ties with FGV. In particular, since its creation in 2009, he coordinated the activities of the Economic Cycle Dating Committee (CODACE), which was set up at FGV IBRE in order to establish a benchmark chronology for economic cycles. With regard to the Center for Monetary Studies’ Annual Monetary Policy Seminars, he participated in the first nine ones, enlivening the debates with his unique way of presenting his ideas.

The meeting’s first block will highlight some key aspects of Pastore’s life story and the legacy left by the professor. In the second part of the event, current trends in monetary policy in Brazil and other countries will be debated, emphasizing the difficulties present in the so-called “last mile” in the fight against the spike in inflation that occurred during the pandemic.
