2018 retrospective: The year began with great awards and recognition
Every year Fundação Getulio Vargas takes the stage in some of the major educational rankings, both national and international. The recognition for the excellence of the undergraduate, Master’s degree, PhD and executive education programs, as well as the individual achievements of professors and researchers in recognition of their work, had the following highlights:
For the second year in a row, FGV was among the top 10 global think tanks, according to the 2017 Global Go To Think Tanks Index, published on February 2 by University of Pennsylvania. In this edition, FGV was voted the 7th best think tank in the world, two positions above the previous survey, and kept its global leadership position as the best managed think tank in the world.
Some studies were also awarded between January and April 2018. The 7th IESS Award for Scientific Production in Supplementary Healthcare chose the research study titled “Processo decisório e motivação no âmbito das normas sobre o rol de procedimentos e eventos em saúde: uma análise exploratória” [Decision-making process and motivation regarding the rules on the list of healthcare procedures and events: an exploratory analysis], by Bruno Araújo Ramalho, from FGV’s Rio de Janeiro Law School (Direito Rio), as the winner in the Law category. The paper “Fiscal Risk and financial fragility”, by Benjamin Miranda Tabak, from FGV’s School of Public Policies and Government (EPPG), Thiago Silva and Solange Guerra (BC) won the INFI-Febraban Banking Economy Award. Professor Eloísa Machado de Almeida, from FGV’s Sao Paulo Law School (Direito SP), won the “Outstanding International Woman Lawyer Award” for her work in the field of human rights, in particular for her contribution to the promotion of women’s rights in Brazil.
Finally, the first four months of 2018 included a special moment for professor Joaquim Falcão, from FGV’s Rio de Janeiro Law School (Direito Rio). The renowned attorney, who was Dean of Direito Rio from 2002 to 2017, was elected a member of the Brazilian Academy of Letters (ABL) on April 19. The swearing-in ceremony took place in November.
