Art economics and FGV Invest
FGV Invest’s Art Economics Study Group, made up of researchers and other people interested in art, has been meeting since August 2016 with the aim of examining academic texts, books, reports and publications focusing on the economics of the art market, as well as the role of esthetics and the arts in the economy.
The group is composed of individuals from art hubs such as galleries and auction houses, art collectors, researchers, art market enthusiasts and primarily FGV professors and students (at undergraduate, master’s and doctoral levels). During breaks, FGV interns also contribute.
The study group has encouraged and participated in various initiatives, including the publication of a series of short studies on the FGV Invest website, working papers on the FGV EESP website and articles in international journals; webinars held by FGV and other institutions; master’s theses and doctoral dissertations; a report on art galleries and the Brazilian market; two courses offered to economics undergraduate and MBA students (and the general public), called “Art Market Economics” and “Art Market Topics”; and a technical cooperation agreement with Sao Paulo Modern Art Museum.
