Brazil and Mercosur must pay attention to the negotiations that involve the Transatlantic Agreement and the Alliance of the Pacific, under penalty of being isolated before the new wave of regionalism that has been arising. This is what states the researcher Lia Valls, of the Applied Economics Department of the Brazilian Institute of Economics (FGV/IBRE).According to her, the agreements do not solely focus on opening markets, but also on new regulations, services, phytosanitary barriers and investments regulation - which may have more profound implications to Brazil. And she adds: The country should try to thoroughly discuss the current rules and look more at Mercosur which, although may be dying, needs to be thought out in the medium term, she warns. To read the full review, please click here (in Portuguese).
