Brazilian consumers are more confident in June, according to IBRE

According to the Institute's evaluation; however, the positive result for the month is not enough to change the downward trend of the indicator, which began in November last year.

The Consumer Confidence Index (ICC), calculated by the Brazilian Institute of Economics (FGV/IBRE) increased 1.0% between May and June 2014, when it moved from 102.8 to 103.8 points. According to the Institute's evaluation; however, the positive result for the month is not enough to change the downward trend of the indicator, which began in November last year.In June, the evaluation of consumers with respect to the current situation improved slightly, while expectations for the following months were stable. The Present Situation Index (ISA) increased 2.2%, reaching 109.6 points, while the Expectations Index (IE) recorded a 0.1% change, reaching 100.7 points.The indicator that measures the level of consumer satisfaction with the financial situation of the family also advanced in June, and increased from 105.1 to 107.2 points. The criterion positively influenced the outcome of the ICC this month - although this indicator still remains well below the historical average (113.4). The proportion of consumers who consider the current situation of the economy as good increased from 19.2% to 21.6%, while the ones that evaluated as bad decreased in a smaller proportion (from 14.1% to 14.4%).The concern of consumers with household budget for the coming months also recorded a decrease. The indicator that measures the degree of optimism regarding the financial situation of households increased 1.9%, to 127.1 points. The share of consumers who expects an improvement increased from 32.0% to 33.9%; and those who expect deterioration decreased from 7.3% to 6.8%.The Survey of Consumer Expectations is made based on a sample of about 2,000 households, located in seven of the main Brazilian capitals.The data collection for this edition was carried out between June 2 and 23.The next results of the Consumer Survey will be released on July 25.
