Celso Amorim participates in FGV's Center for International Relation´s workshop

FGV's Center for International Relations (CRI) held the 5th Workshop on Methods and Research Techniques in Global History and International Relations between the 9th and 11th of May. The event was marked by the start of FGV's partnership with the Transatlantic Studies Association as well as the Schools process of internationalization. For the first time there was an international call for candidates and foreign participants were selected to take part. The workshop was run by Professors Alexandre Moreli, Oliver Stuenkel and Matias Spektor, of the CRI, and by Renato Rocha, docent from FGV's School of Applied Mathematics (EMAp). The activity also included the participation of Celso Amorim, ex-minister of External Relations (2003 to 2011) and Defense (2001 to 2015).The event brought together young students and researchers from a range of Brazilian cities, ? Brasília, Porto Alegre, Itajaí (SC), Rio de Janeiro and São Paulo ? and from abroad ? Belgium and the U.S.A. Participants were introduced to various methodologies and research sources in the workshop and engaged in in-depth discussions of their own research projects. As well as getting to know the archives of FGV's School of Social Sciences (CPDOC) better, the participants were also brought into contact with data mining tools being specifically developed for research projects in History and International Relations in a partnership between CPDOC, EMAp and the University of Columbia.Celso Amorim participated in the second day of activities. During his encounter with the participants the ex-minister debated themes that marked his career, such as the reform of the UN Security Council, the Tehran Declaration and Brazil's role in the World Trade Organization (WTO). He also engaged in an animated debate with the participants, passing on valuable lessons in how to prepare and conduct research projects to understand the behind the scenes functioning of international relations involving Brazil.?The success of previous events was repeated. The workshop has been recognized as an important opportunity for young Brazilian researchers, and now foreigners, to refine their research questions and obtain better results in their work?, Professor Alexandre Moreli, one of the organizers of the event, said.
