Civil Construction Index rises 1.80% in May

The Civil Construction Index rose 1.80% in May, after going up 0.95% in April. As a result, the index is now up 6.92% so far this year and up 14.62% in the last 12 months. In May 2020, the index was 0.21% higher than the previous month and 4.14% higher than 12 months before. Between April and May 2021, the figure related to Materials, Equipment and Services went from 1.88% to 2.58%, while the result for Labor increased from 0.01% to 0.99%.

Materials, Equipment and Services

Within the Materials, Equipment and Services group, the Materials and Equipment item went up 2.93% in May, after rising 2.17% the month before. Three of the four subgroups recorded growth in their rates of variation, especially Structural Materials, which increased from 2.25% to 2.91%. 

The Services item went from 0.52% in April to 0.95% in May. In this group, the Design item increased from 0.41% to 1.95%.

Labor

The rate of variation for Labor rose from 0.01% in April to 0.99% in May. 

State capitals

All the surveyed state capitals (Salvador, Brasilia, Belo Horizonte, Recife, Rio de Janeiro, Porto Alegre and Sao Paulo) experienced increases in their rates of variation.
