Cost of living for seniors increased less than average, according to IBRE

According to IBRE, the index registered a 2.10% increase in the fourth quarter of 2013, increasing by 5.48% in the year. With this result, the change of the indicator remained below the accumulated rate by the Consumer Price Index - Brazil (IPC-BR), which was 5.63%, in the same period.

The cost of living for the population aged over 60 increased less than the overall national average in 2013. This is the conclusion of the Consumer Price Index for the Elderly (IPC-3i), calculated by the Brazilian Institute of Economics (FGV/IBRE).

According to IBRE, the index registered a 2.10% increase in the fourth quarter of 2013, increasing by 5.48% in the year. With this result, the change of the indicator remained below the accumulated rate by the Consumer Price Index - Brazil (IPC-BR), which was 5.63%, in the same period.

All eight classes of expenditure which make up the IPC-3i - Food, Housing, Clothing, Health and Personal Care; Reading, Education and Recreation; Transportation; Communication; and Miscellaneous Expenses - showed improvements in their change rates. Among them, the Food group contributed more to the increase of the index, with a rate that increased from -1.79% to 3.56%.
