CPDOC professors publish a book in London on the relations between Brazil and soccer

The book gathers articles that discuss various aspects of the social history of Brazilian soccer since the introduction of the sport in Brazil (in the late nineteenth and early twentieth century) to the preparations and discussions about the 2014 World Cup, from the point of view of Americans, Brazilian, French, and English research.

Hurst Publishers, from London, will launch the book The Country of Football: Politics, Popular Culture, and the Beautiful Game in Brazil? this month - written by professors at FGV?s School of Social Sciences (FGV/CPDOC), Paulo Fontes and Bernardo Buarque de Hollanda, in partnership with the Brazil Institute at King's College London.The book gathers articles that discuss various aspects of the social history of Brazilian soccer since the introduction of the sport in Brazil (in the late nineteenth and early twentieth century) to the preparations and discussions about the 2014 World Cup, from the point of view of Americans, Brazilian, French, and English research.  Brazil has done much to shape football, but how has football shaped Brazil? says the presentation of the book on the publisher's site.On June 19, the book will be released in the German capital, during the seminar Rio-Berlin: In the grip of World Cup fever?.
