Democracy and disinformation in Latin America to be debated at FGV seminar

Major disinformation threats to online public debate in Brazil and other Latin American countries will be discussed at a seminar called “Democracy and Disinformation in Latin America,” to be held on November 25, at 2 pm, on FGV’s YouTube channel, by FGV’s Department of Public Policy Analysis (FGV DAPP). The event is part of the Digital Democracy Room, a project led by FGV DAPP that is monitoring and analyzing public debate on the internet, in order to identify and combat disinformation strategies that threaten democracy.

This initiative has strengthened and grown thanks to the arrival of new partners in Mexico and other Latin American countries, which are sharing their knowledge, techniques and tools. The results achieved in recent years will be presented at the seminar.

Representatives of five partner institutions will be present at the event. The confirmed debaters are Isabela Mercado of Bolívia Verifica (Bolivia); Guillermo Marín of Espacio Público (Chile); Daniela Florez of Linterna Verde (Colombia); Carla Díaz of Ojo Público (Peru); and Lidia Sánchez of Animal Político (Mexico). The moderator will be the coordinator of the Digital Democracy Room, FGV DAPP’s Amaro Grassi.

Since it was launched in 2018, the Digital Democracy Room project has published more than 130 analyses of public debate on social media, encompassing different topics, especially in the political, economic, social and cultural areas. To read these articles, click here.
