Dual degree program in law and business graduates first student
Bernardo Souza Leão is the first student to graduate from the Law and Business Administration courses, based on the dual degree program offered by FGV’s Rio de Janeiro Law School (Direito Rio) and Brazilian School of Public and Business Administration (EBAPE). The Dual Degree Program aims to train professionals who have interdisciplinary knowledge. Advised by the dean of Direito Rio, Professor Joaquim Falcão, Leão wrote about the ‘Private investment fund in film distribution in Brazil’, a work that was reviewed by an interdisciplinary panel, with professors from the Law and Administration schools.
“I saw this dual degree opportunity as a challenge, in which I learned from experience. I think that all information developed in the field of science complement each other. It was a very rich experience, which added a lot to me, both in terms of learning and emotional growth”, said Leão.
The Undergraduate Coordinator of Direito Rio, Professor Thiago Bottino, highlights Leão’s pioneering spirit. “The dual degree program owes a lot to Leão. For the courage to open up a new path, for the seriousness with which he met all requirements of both schools, and for showing that there are several market segments that require different professionals. Students who start attending FGV’s Law and Administration schools today now have yet another example, in addition to the traditional activities of these two professions”.
Thinking about the job market, which increasingly looks for professionals with interdisciplinary training, in addition to the partnership with EBAPE, Direito Rio has dual degree programs with FGV’s School of Social Sciences (CPDOC) and School of Applied Mathematics (EMAp). In addition, the School has complementary training programs in International Relations and Economics (in partnership with EPGE Brazilian School of Economics and Finance (EPGE)).
