Easter eggs are more expensive in Brazil in 2014, according to IBRE

Easter egg prices in Brazil are more expensive this year than in 2013. Compared with last year, the value of the most coveted item of the Holy Week increased 6.78% in 2014, remaining above the accumulated inflation of the Consumer Price Index (IPC/FGV) between April 2013 and March 2014, which was 6.09%.Among the seven Brazilian state capitals researched, the cost of Easter eggs increased more in Porto Alegre (7.70%), followed by Belo Horizonte, which recorded a 7.57% increase. Brasilia recorded the lowest increase, of 6.31%.According to IBRE's economist, André Braz, who conducted the survey, to avoid the price increase he recommends comparing prices, buying the eggs way before Easter eve and using one's creativity. At the height of the Easter holiday, the most known eggs have already been sold, and the remaining are broken or are more expensive. Therefore, a good strategy could be shopping ahead of time, he said. For adults, chocolate bars and boxes are more economical choices, Braz concluded.
