EBAPE and ECEME discuss the future of management in emerging economies

Pró-Estratégia - a joint project between the Brazilian School of Public and Business Administration (FGV/EBAPE) and Escola de Comando e Estado-Maior do Exército (ECEME) - held a lecture on Management in Emerging Economies, with Professor Alexandre Faria (FGV/EBAPE). The event is part of the research seminar Estratégia, Sociedade e Governo? (Strategy, Government and Society) and was attended by students of ECEME, and higher education institutions in Rio de Janeiro. The meeting provided an approximation of the research projects Repensando Estratégia Internacional e Management/Gestão em (e a partir de) Economias Emergentes? (Rethinking International Strategy and Management of (and from) Emerging Economies) and ?Administração em Ambientes Militares? (Management in Military Environments), coordinated by Professors Alexandre Faria and Valentina Schmitt (Instituto Meira Mattos IMM/ECEME), respectively. The first explores the dimensions of international relations and geopolitics of knowledge to develop new theories on the international strategy area and rethink the management area; and the second addresses the managerial challenges in military environments, especially in the area of defense. The challenges generated by Professor Alexandre are of great contribution to the progress of IMM's scholars, especially because they provoke the perception that we need perspectives and studies on geopolitics of knowledge, and especially, more criticism in management and strategy, said Valentina Schmitt.Major Moura, ECEME's PhD student, said that the unrest generated by the professor resulted in a productive debate on how to promote the advancement of management in an innovative international perspective. Emerging countries should build or strengthen their epistemic communities based on that perspective, so that they can take on new international and social responsibilities in strategy and management, he concluded. The seminar took place on May 8, at ECEME's headquarters, in Rio de Janeiro.
