The PhD student of the Brazilian School of Public and Business Administration (FGV/EBAPE), Karina Furtado, participated, on February 11, in a videoconference with the World Bank in which she discussed the Law on Access to Information (LAI) and the bargaining process with the military in Brazil.

Egypt has been trying to pass a law on access to information and has faced resistance from the military that make up the government, who want a weaker law. I've talked about the Brazilian experience to politicians, the military and members of the organized Egyptian civil society in the hope that this will expand the possibilities of bargaining with the government, said Karina, who is currently a research assistant of Professor Gregory Michener.

The subject was the object of the study of the master's thesis ?Relações civis-militares e as Leis de Acesso à Informação na América Latina e no Brasil? (Civil-military relations and the Access to Information Laws in Latin America and Brazil), completed last year by Karina in the Master's in Public Administration of FGV/EBAPE. The work, with the guidance of Professor Octavio Amorim Neto, explained that the relations between civilians and the military in Brazil were a factor of great influence in the processing of LAI in the country.
