European Union competition brings together students to discuss bloc’s trade agreement with Mercosul
On October 10 and 11, Rodrigo Bellotti Azevedo and Mariana Novotny Muniz, students at the FGV´s Rio de Janeiro Law School, will participate in the Second European Council Simulation in Brazil. The event will take place at Brasilia University Center and it will involve 28 pairs of undergraduate and graduate students from across Brazil, which will each represent one of the European Union’s member states. The subject this year is the recently concluded trade agreement between the EU and the South American Mercosul trade bloc.
This is the first time that the FGV´s Rio de Janeiro Law School has taken part in the event. Under the guidance of the coordinator of FGV’s Jean Monnet Center of Excellence, Professor Paula Wojcikiewicz Almeida, the two students will have to represent an EU country in a round of negotiations about the free trade agreement. The work will be judged by an evaluation committee based on criteria such as the quality of preparatory documents produced, consistency with the foreign policy of the represented state, engagement in the discussions, and demonstration of negotiation and teamwork skills.
The simulation’s winning pair of students will receive a trip to Brussels, where they will have the opportunity to visit the main offices of the institutions that represent the European Union.
