Event debates Gavi Alliance and its role in restoring global vaccination coverage
The COVID-19 pandemic highlighted the crucial role of vaccines for public health as well as for the stability of our societies. In this context, the FGV Center for Health Planning and Management Studies (FGVsaúde) at Fundação Getulio Vargas’ Sao Paulo School of Business Administration (FGV EAESP) is holding an event called “The Gavi Alliance and Its Role in Restoring Global Vaccination Coverage,” featuring a lecture by José Manuel Durão Barroso. This public event will take place on March 24, at 11 am, in FGV’s Noble Room in Sao Paulo.
In the last 100 years, vaccination has transformed the world, preventing diseases and aiding progress in all countries. Since 2000, Gavi, the Vaccine Alliance, has been working relentlessly to ensure that these life-saving tools are equitably available in low-income countries, through an integrated model that combines innovative funding, market influence and an original alliance approach.
José Manuel Durão Barroso (the chairman of the Gavi Board, a former European Commission president and a former prime minister of Portugal) and Marie-Ange Saraka-Yao (Gavi’s director of resource mobilization) will give a presentation on the long-term impacts of investment in vaccines and the need to reinforce our commitment to vaccination in the context of an unprecedented drop in coverage.
They will discuss how Gavi has developed innovative ways to combat vaccine inequity and the central role that Brazil can play in promoting access to vaccination, generating social impacts in partnership with cross-sector leaders and as a producer of vaccines at fair prices.
The event will be opened by FGV EAESP’s vice dean, Tales Andreassi; and the coordinator of FGVsaúde, Adriano Massuda. The moderator will be Professor Elize Massard da Fonseca of FGV EAESP.
