Event discusses technological concepts of Web 2.0 and metaverse

The Digital Environment Taxation Research Group at Fundação Getulio Vargas’ Sao Paulo Law School is holding a webinar called “From Web 2.0 to the Metaverse: Which Technological Concepts Are Involved?” The event will take place on September 29, at 8 am, in the Sao Paulo Law School’s auditorium (Rua Rocha, 233, 2nd basement, Bela Vista, Sao Paulo).

The aim of the meeting is to go beyond debate on how the current system accommodates the taxation of Web3 events and look to the future, asking questions about possible improvements to our legal system and how Brazil could become a Web3 technology hub.

Web3 has been in the spotlight lately. Operations involving cryptoassets, mining, staking and NFTs, among many other phenomena, pose challenges to taxation, which will inevitably have to be faced by the tax authorities and taxpayers. Because of identification difficulties and, in some cases, the complete lack of a source of production or payment, some people have asked whether the current tax system is able to handle these phenomena. With the advent of the metaverse, more doubts loom on the horizon.
