Experts discuss Brazilian energy market framework
Supported by the World Bank, FGV’s Center for Regulation and Infrastructure Studies (CERI) held the Thematic Workshop "Brazilian Energy Market Framework" on January 23. The meeting is set in the context of the initiative of the Ministry of Mines and Energy to submit the following documents to public inquiry in 2017: ‘Aprimoramento do Marco Legal do Setor Elétrico’ [Improvement of the Legal Framework of the Electricity Sector] and ‘Levantamento de Questões sobre a Implantação do Preço Horário no Mercado de Curto Prazo’ [Survey of Questions about the Implementation of the Hourly Price in the Short-Term Market].
The event featured presentations from professors Ashley Brown, Executive Director of the Harvard Electricity Policy Group, Flavio Menezes, from the School of Economics of The University of Queensland, and Luciano de Castro, from Tippie College of Business of University of Iowa.
In addition to academic experts, the Workshop was also attended by government representatives and agents of the electrical energy sector, who participated in the debate on subjects addressed by the proposals, which will ultimately lead to major changes in the sector’s regulatory framework.
