FGV, ranked the world’s third best think tank, is now accredited by the Brazilian Defense Ministry as a Strategic Defense Company. This measure was set out in Ordinance GM-MD 3,216 of June 12, 2023, published in the federal government’s official gazette.

Strategic Defense Companies are legal organizations accredited by the Defense Ministry due to their importance in carrying out activities related to national security. Their operations may include researching, developing, producing, acquiring, converting and maintaining defense and security products, services and systems.

They must meet some specific conditions, such as being headquartered in Brazil, possessing proven scientific or technological knowledge, being controlled by Brazilians and ensuring productive continuity in Brazil.

This decision recognizes FGV’s significant contributions to the country’s national defense sector in terms of scientific production, education and dissemination. This has been achieved through FGV’s partnership with the Defense Ministry, which has grown over the past two decades, involving applied research and courses jointly structured and executed with the Armed Forces. So far, more than 6,000 military officers have done this academic and professional training, and 189 of them have reached the rank of general.

The partnership also includes the development and implementation of new management processes and the execution of projects within the scope of the Submarine Development Program, Tamandaré-Class Frigate Program, Antarctic Support Ship, Brazilian Multipurpose Reactor, Navy Ammunition Factory and Cyber Guardian Army.

FGV’s accreditation as a Strategic Defense Company reflects its longstanding involvement and collaboration with the Armed Forces. FGV remains committed to contributing to the training of officers and the production of applied knowledge in this strategically important field for our country.
