FGV's São Paulo Law School (Direito SP) and CCR will launch a Study Group on Relations between the State (GRP/Direito SP) this Friday 13th of May. The group will bring together professors and researchers from the areas of economic and regulatory law and aims to serve as a forum for research and debate to improve regulation in the country. The initial project envisages the study of governance in regulatory agencies, especially in relation to the politics and requirements for the naming of directors, mechanisms of interference by central government, advertising and transparency. The aim is to address a broad panorama of issues that allow us to understand relations between the government and regulatory agencies, as well as the impact on the quality of regulation and incentives for the private sector. The idea is to bring academia closer to regulated industry, using scientific rigor and the prestige of academic research to serve the public interest? explained Bruno Salama, professor of Direito SP and coordinator of the GRP.CCR Group, one of the largest infrastructure companies in Latin America, advocates that stable regulation is fundamental to attract investment. We believe that academic research, coordinated by an institution that values scientific rigor, will contribute greatly to increasing the maturity of the Brazilian regulatory environment said Marcus Senna, the legal director of CCR group. In his opinion, the country has understood the important role of concessions in upgrading national infrastructure and will only gain from improvements in the institutional relationship between the State and the private sector.
