FGV's Brazilian Institute of Economics (IBRE), in partnership with The Conference Board - a global and independent business research institution, will release on Wednesday, July 17, a new monthly indicator which aims to project the direction of the Brazilian economy in the short term. The Anticipation Index of the Brazilian Economy (IAE) will assist financial agents and other interested parties to know in advance the direction of the economy of the country, and allow a direct comparison of business cycles in Brazil with other 11 countries and regions which are already covered by The Conference Board: China, the U.S., the Eurozone, Australia, France, Germany, Japan, Mexico, Korea, Spain and the UK. As a supplement to the IAE, the Coincident Index of the Brazilian Economy (ICE), which measures current economic conditions and the intensity of the economic activity on a monthly basis, will also be presented at the launch. The Brazilian economy is the sixth largest in the world, considering nominal GDP, and the largest of Latin America. Evidently, the variety and quality of public data about Brazil should also expand, states the vice president and head economist of The Conference Board, Bart Van Ark. According to him, the experience of the institution in calculating indicators combined with IBRE's knowledge, synonymous of quality in Brazil for over 50 years, qualify the Institute to face this challenge. In order to present the results and explain more methodological details of the new indicators, IBRE will hold on July 18 and 19, in Rio and São Paulo, seminars, in Portuguese, with the presence of representatives of both institutions that create the indexes. Those interested in participating should send an email to seminarios_ibre@fgv.br.
