FGV and Unibanco Institute launch free training for school managers
Focused on practical applications, this self-instructional course is free and lasts 48 hours
Fundação Getulio Vargas’ Division for the Development of Public Management and Educational Policies (FGV DGPE), FGV In Company and the Unibanco Institute have just launched a new training course called “School Management in Practice: Teaching Dimension.” This initiative is aligned with national guidelines for school principals and the day-to-day needs of education professionals. This free and self-instructional course aims to contribute to the quality of education in Brazil through the professional development of those who already work or wish to work as principals of kindergartens, elementary schools and high schools.
According to Ricardo Henriques, executive superintendent of the Unibanco Institute, the training course is designed to support the development of management geared toward the continuous advancement of education, with a focus on promoting students’ learning, offering quality and equity for all. “There is robust evidence from national and international studies proving the importance of school management in improving students’ learning. After teachers, the professionals who have the greatest impact on students’ performance are school principals,” he says.
In addition to this stage, the training program will include three other courses, dedicated to Policy & Institutional, Administrative & Financial, and Personal & Relationship dimensions. Each online course will last 48 hours, involving an estimated six weeks of dedicated study time, and will use versatile multimedia resources such as video lessons, podcasts and digital reading materials, focusing mainly on support content for the practical implementation of actions. The expectation is that all the courses, which are completely asynchronous and self-instructional, will be available on the platform by October of this year.
Andressa Buss, the program’s academic coordinator, explains, “This is the result of a process of almost two years of intense work, listening to school principals about the main challenges of their job and their preferred methodologies and study materials. It also involved pilot classes, to test and adjust the content before making it available to the public. Care was taken to ensure that the solution makes sense to professionals who already work or wish to work in the area, thereby helping improve the educational system as a whole, with direct impacts on the quality of teaching. As the program’s name implies, it focuses on practical elements of school management.”
According to José Henrique Paim, the director of FGV DGPE, “Ongoing training for school principals is fundamental to ensuring the quality and effectiveness of school management. FGV DGPE believes that education is a dynamic field, subject to constant change and innovation. Therefore, principals need to be up to date with best practices. Our program provides these professionals with the opportunity to develop essential skills and abilities to apply in the field.”
At the end of each stage, participants will receive a certificate of completion, attesting to the hours studied and the content covered in the training.
