FGV and University of Chicago hold debate on economic approach to consumer contracts
The Fundação Getulio Vargas Law Schools – Sao Paulo Law School (FGV Direito SP) and Rio de Janeiro Law School (FGV Direito Rio) - in partnership with the University of Chicago, present the Law and Economics Forum, a series of free online lectures, with the aim of introducing the audience to the most up-to-date studies on legal and political issues. Next week, September 29 and October 1, starting at 5 pm, the theme will be an economic approach to consumer contracts.
In the first lecture, on Tuesday (29th), Professor Omri Ben-Shahar will address the main consumer protection laws, with emphasis on mandatory disclosures, standard rules, incentives and the challenges and successes in the area.
On Thursday (1st), professor at FGV Direito SP, Luciano Timm, will discuss the main instruments of consumer protection legislation in Brazil, such as unfair terms, price caps, liability, the right of consumers to be informed and consequences in terms of litigation, prices and competition. In addition, the implications of adopting OECD recommendations for consumer protection policy in Brazil (a cost-benefit analysis) will be addressed.
