FGV Art supports exhibition at Galeria Metrópole during Design Week in Sao Paulo

“Um Lugar” (“A Place”), an exhibition curated by Carolina Gurgel with the support of Adelia Borges, opened in Galeria Metrópole, an architecturally acclaimed shopping and cultural center in downtown Sao Paulo, on March 16. Created by Galeria Metrópole’s resident designers, Gabriel De La Cruz and Pedro Luna, the exhibition is dedicated to thinking about the richness of contemporary Brazilian design and is supported by FGV Art.

The exhibition, which features 70 individual stools by different designers and artists from various parts of Brazil, will run until March 24 (the same period as Sao PauloDesign Week), on Galeria Metrópole’sthird floor.

Galeria Metrópoleis a key venue for Brazilian design and it has been involved in the recent wave of original furniture produced by younger designers.

In its basic conception, stoolsare the core element of the exhibition. This is because these items are recurring creations in the work of designers. They perform a practical functionand also reflect different artistic expressions.They have all kinds of shapes, materials and construction systems. Stools launched over the last 15 years are on display.

Building on a Fundação Getulio Vargas research project on Brazilian design, which was transformed into the publications Modern Brazilian Furniture (2012) and Contemporary Brazilian Furniture (2012), FGV is reinforcing its encouragement and support for national artistic production.
