FGV CPDOC receives Distinguished Service Award from Rio de Janeiro State Legislative Assembly
Award was presented earlier this week by state representative Carlos Minc

Fundação Getulio Vargas’ School of Social Sciences (FGV CPDOC) has received a Distinguished Service Award from the state government of Rio de Janeiro, presented by state representative Carlos Minc, in recognition of its commitment to preserving Brazilian heritage and history.
When handing over the award, Minc said, “The Legislative Assembly voted to bestow this award in recognition of the research, studies, publications, films and books produced by FGV CPDOC. You are helping build memories of this country, and memories and culture mean democratic resilience.”
The ceremony was followed by a seminar called “Rio de Janeiro: Memories and Politics,” whose speakers included professors Américo Freire and Jairo Nicolau of FGV CPDOC, as well as Carlos Minc.
FGV CPDOC’s documentation coordinator, Carolina Alves, said that this recognition reaffirms the school’s position as one of the guardians of Brazilian’s rich cultural heritage. “Our Archive Center has the privilege of managing a rich set of cultural heritage and the largest collection of personal archives of Brazilian public figures. The recognition we have received through this award not only underscores the historical importance of our collection for the city of Rio de Janeiro, but also highlights our commitment to conservation, dissemination and innovation. This award also marks CPDOC’s 50th anniversary and our ongoing efforts to protect and celebrate Brazilian history and culture,” she said.
The dean of FGV CPDOC, Celso Castro, said that the award was the result of the school’s commitment to the production of high-quality public goods. “This Distinguished Service Award from the state of Rio de Janeiro recognizes our role not only as guardians of cultural heritage, but also as innovators in the integration of documentation, teaching and research activities. The School of Social Sciences works in an interdisciplinary way, creating a dynamic environment that fosters knowledge and cultural dissemination. This award validates our commitment to producing high-quality public goods and reinforces our dedication to being a center of excellence that contributes significantly to the cultural and academic development of Brazil and, in particular, Rio de Janeiro,” he said.
