FGV EBAPE, leader in administration education and research, celebrates 70th anniversary
Fundação Getulio Vargas’ Brazilian School of Public and Business Administration (FGV EBAPE), a leader in education and knowledge production for Brazil’s public sector and business community, turned 70 years old on April 15, 2022. Since it was founded, the school has sought to build knowledge and train senior managers and it has consistently been rated among the best education institutions in Brazil and appeared in international rankings.
FGV EBAPE’s story began in 1952. It was the first organization in Latin America to offer an undergraduate degree in public administration. It has carried out numerous initiatives to train leaders, managers, CEOs, superintendents and consultants.
Always innovative, in 1967 it was one of the first schools in Brazil to produce a publication related to public administration, called the Brazilian Journal of Public Administration. At the same time, it broadened its academic horizons and created a master’s in public administration program. A few years later, the school launched a doctorate in administration, expanded its activities as a business school and then created two professional master’s programs, in the areas of business management and public administration.
The studies produced by the school’s researchers feature in prominent journals around the world and receive national and international awards, thereby ensuring that this research plays a major role in building administration-related knowledge and is reported on by the mainstream press.
To strengthen the excellence of its professors and researchers in terms of their output of scientific papers, FGV EBAPE has created research centers that focus on important topics, always seeking to innovate and generate solutions for partner institutions, whether in the public or private sector, in Brazil or abroad. These centers include the Applied Research Center in Accounting and Analytics (ARC A&A), the Center of Behavioral Research (CBR), the Center for Banking and Finance Research (CBFR), the Competitiveness and Innovation Study Center (CECIN) and the Center for Excellence and Innovation in Education Policies (CEIPE).
FGV EBAPE’s quest for international relevance led it to be certified by the world’s three leading public administration accreditation organizations: EQUIS, AACSB and ICAPA. This certification attests to the school’s quality, as it is only bestowed on institutions that meet the highest international standards. In order to boost its international presence, FGV EBAPE has also formed partnerships with more than 50 business schools in many countries, and every year it receives students from all continents, as well as offering all its students opportunities to take part in international programs.
In line with the ideal of expanding administration education, the school has for more than a decade been offering an online technological undergraduate program. In this way, it allows young people and adults throughout Brazil, and even in other countries, to access education. This program now has seven courses: Commercial Management; Human Resources Management; Financial Management; Public Management; Logistics; Marketing; and Management Processes.
To foster links between its past students, FGV EBAPE created an Alumni Network in 2015. This is a community that frequently gets together and stays in touch.
