The objective of the event, which will feature the Brazilian mining and energy minister, Bento Costa de Albuquerque, and the deputy governor of Minas Gerais, Paulo Eduardo Rocha Brant, the Consul General of the Federal Republic of Germany in Rio de Janeiro, Dirk Augustin, among other officials, is to debate opportunities and challenges involving a just and sustainable transition process in Minas Gerais, based on Germany’s experience.
The meeting, supported by the German Foreign Ministry and the state government of Minas Gerais, will seek to identify opportunities for cooperation between Minas Gerais and Germany, including the design and execution of projects in the state’s municipalities.
The topics to be discussed include the prospects for a mining-based economy in Minas Gerais and the need to identify a more sustainable and diversified development model; a presentation of experiences in transforming the socioeconomic structure of German mining regions, in line with Just Transition concepts; and the reformulation of sustainable development strategies and initiatives for regions affected by the mining industry within the Just Transition approach.
