FGV forms partnership with Brazilian Navy to train officers in area of data science and AI
FGV Projetos, as part of its work in the defense sector, and the FGV School of Applied Mathematics (FGV EMAp) have formed another partnership with the Brazilian Navy. This time, a Non-Degree Graduate Diploma Course in Artificial Intelligence for Military Applications will be taught as part of the Navy’s Advanced Professional Development Program for Marine Corps Officers (C-ApA-CFN). This program is made up of strictly military training modules and other modules in complementary technical areas, the latter through partnerships with higher education Institutions.
The course will cover topics that have the potential to help officers develop analytical and critical thinking skills, improve their understanding of the operational environment and automate tasks. In addition to its comprehensive application in decision making and operational efficiency, this knowledge can also be applied to specific intelligence, planning, logistics, command and control activities.
According to Professor Rafael Pinho, coordinator of the course at FGV EMAp, “The main objective is to enable officers of the Brazilian Marine Corps to acquire essential knowledge and practical skills to incorporate AI into their strategic programs and enhance the institution’s operational capacity.”
“This initiative reinforces the cooperation between Fundação Getulio Vargas and the Brazilian Armed Forces, with which we have already completed some important projects, while others are under way. This is another example of FGV acting in an integrated manner with the aim of stimulating Brazil’s socioeconomic development,” said Sergio Gustavo Costa, the manager who will be overseeing the FGV Projetos course.
