FGV holds 8th Accounting Colloquium and 59th World Auditing Symposium
The purpose of the colloquium is to analyze the growing demand for transparency and accountability in relation to the management of public resources.

The Applied Research Center in Accounting and Analytics at Fundação Getulio Vargas’ Brazilian School of Public and Business Administration (FGV EBAPE), in partnership with the Rutgers Accounting Research Center and Laboratory of Continuous Auditing and Reporting at Rutgers University, is holding the 8th Public Sector Accounting and Data Analytics Colloquium and the 59th World Continuous Auditing and Reporting Symposia. This public event will take place on December 4 and 5, from 9 a.m. to 6 p.m., in FGV EBAPE’s main building.
The purpose of the colloquium is to analyze the growing demand for transparency and accountability in relation to the management of public resources, which gives government auditors the responsibility of providing guarantees on the performance of programs and the financial position of government entities, which must spend their resources properly.
In its 2023 edition, the event will continue in hybrid mode, as initially adopted in 2022. Two more improvements have been made for this year. The first improvement is logistical: the in-person event will be held in three locations – Rio de Janeiro (FGV EBAPE), Florianópolis (Santa Catarina Federal University) and Newark (Rutgers Business University) – all connected by Zoom in real time. By allowing researchers to attend the colloquium in person at any of the three locations, the idea is to reduce the cost of participating in the event and its carbon footprint, while increasing its scope and impact.
The second improvement is related to the event’s content. Researchers interested in submitting articles to the call for papers, titled “Data science challenges to financial reporting in the public sector – challenges for accounting and accountability,” to be published in Public Money & Management, will have the opportunity to present working papers at the conference.
The two-day event will feature 14 hours of activities in all, including 10 lectures, each lasting one hour, on the use of big data analytics in the context of public accounting, government control and public finance, as well as proposals to use data analytics for the public good. Four working papers will also be presented in sessions lasting half an hour each. In addition, the organizers will present updates on Virtual International Collaboration Education (VICE) to the academic community, and the editors of Public Money & Management will present some relevant tips for researchers interested in submitting their articles to the journal, as well as detailed information on the call for papers.
