FGV holds third European Week with event at the Brazilian Foreign Ministry

The Week is divided into two main events: the third edition of the Europe Day Conference and the European Union School. The Conference will take place at the Foreign Ministry Palace, on the 8th, and will discuss the European integration ten years after the eastern expansion in 2004

To discuss the integration of the European Union and serve as a discussion forum for European Studies. These are some of the goals of the third European Week - held on May 6-8 by FGV's Center for International Relations (based at CPDOC) in partnership with the Konrad Adenauer Foundation.The Week is divided into two main events: the third edition of the Europe Day Conference and the European Union School. The Conference will take place at the Foreign Ministry Palace, on the 8th, and will discuss the European integration ten years after the eastern expansion in 2004 from a dynamic international context point of view, with a focus on the economic crisis and policy issues of the region.Three panels will address the theme, with the presence of experts from Europe, the U.S. and Latin America, as well as ambassadors and representatives of FGV, Konrad Adenauer Foundation and the European Union itself. The opening lecture will be given by Professor Taras Kuzio, of University of Alberta, with a specialization in Ukraine and its relations with Russia and the European Union.  The Conference will also feature Alexander Stutzmann, diplomatic adviser to the office of the President of the European Parliament, Martin Schulz; Oswaldo Biato, director of the European Division of the Ministry of Foreign Affairs of Brazil; and Ana Paula Zacarias, the European Union's ambassador in Brazil.The European Union School will consist of a series of lectures on European Studies, aimed at graduate students and young professionals, and it will take place at FGV's main offices in Rio de Janeiro. This year's theme is ?The European Union Looking East?.Registrations for the conference are free and they can be done through the IR Center's website www.ri.fgv.br. Those interested in receiving the certificate of participation should write to ri@fgv.br after the conference, which will be conducted in English.
