FGV hosts Uruguayan ambassador to Brazil to launch Center for Global Business Studies
The event, whose central theme is the Mercosul trade bloc, will take place on November 11 at 5 p.m. in FGV EESP’s main building
Fundação Getulio Vargas’ Sao Paulo School of Economics (FGV EESP) is holding a seminar called “Brazil’s International Presence Revisited: Advances and Setbacks in Recent Years” on November 11, starting at 5 p.m., in its main building at 356 Rua Dr. Plínio Barreto, Bela Vista, Sao Paulo.
The event will include a talk by the Uruguayan ambassador to Brazil, Guillermo Valles Galmés, on the future of the Mercosul trade bloc, followed by a roundtable discussion with Lucas Ferraz, coordinator of FGV EESP’s Center for Global Business Studies; and Emanuel Ornelas and João Paulo Pessoa, professors at FGV EESP and authors of the book “Trade Policy in Brazil: Causes and Consequences of Our Isolation” (2020), which analyzes the impacts of Brazil’s isolation and Mercosul’s poor performance in terms of productivity, economic growth and social welfare.
The seminar will debate how Brazil should position itself and how Mercosul can modernize itself in the new global context, marked by economic and geopolitical shocks that have affected countries’ trade policies.
