FGV IBRE opens Center for Fiscal Policy and Budgeting

Brazil has a new fiscal regime – a set of budgetary rules and procedures aimed at improving the allocation of public spending while containing the public deficit and producing greater harmonization with monetary policy. If successful, this new regime could lead to greater control of indebtedness.

On April 2, from 9 a.m. to 1 p.m., the First Meeting of the Center for Fiscal Policy and Budgeting at Fundação Getulio Vargas’ Brazilian Institute of Economics (FGV IBRE) will be held. The event, part of the official inauguration of the Center for Fiscal Policy and Budgeting, will take place in person on the 12th floor of FGV’s main building at 190 Praia de Botafogoin Rio de Janeiro. The event will also be livestreamed on FGV’s YouTube channel.

The center’s objective is to carry out research to help strengthen Brazil’s fiscal institutions and to develop tools to allow for more effective public spending, the rationalization of the tax system and enhanced budget processes, so that the public finances can contribute to the country’s economic development.
