FGV master?s program in Regulation Law is the first in the country

FGV's Rio de Janeiro Law School (DIREITO RIO) has just launched the first Master?s program in Regulation Law in the country. Recognized and recommended by Capes, the course will be coordinated by the Teaching, Research and Graduate Studies vice-director of FGV's Rio de Janeiro Law School, professor Sérgio Guerra. The course seeks to train researchers capable of developing academic work that will bring improvements to Brazilian institutional arrangements and contribute to the development of the country, through two lines of research: Institutions, Economy and Justice and Governance, Technology and Sustainability. To achieve this goal, a critical perspective on the main themes related to the state power of regulatory intervention and its impacts will be employed. The decision to invest in an Academic Master's in the area of Regulation Law emerged from the experience and the success of the lato sensu LL.M graduate course in State Law and Regulation offered by the School for more than seven years. As it is the first in the country, the master's will encourage the development of innovative, especially empirical, legal research, on state intervention in regulated industries, explains the coordinator of the course. The selective process consists of three eliminatory steps: an exam on specific knowledge and written exam to check understanding of the English language; résumé analysis, transcripts, recommendation and application letters; and interview. The course lasts 24 months, with a total workload of 450 hrs. Classes start in the first half of 2014. The selection will be annual and 20 positions will be offered.Registration is open until November 22, 2013.For more information and registration, please visit the Academic Master's in Regulation Law page, in Portuguese.
