FGV opens exhibition about the history of Copacabana

With images collected from various collections, the purpose of the exhibition is to merge classic and unknown angles around themes such as the discovery of the pleasures of the beaches, the paths of modernity and the waves of the boardwalk that eventually became the most important symbol of the neighborhood.

The School of Social Sciences (FGV/CPDOC) will hold, starting next Monday, the exhibition Copacabana, copacabanas - which will be displayed in FGV's unit in Candelaria, in Rio de Janeiro, until May 15.The show was created as a tribute to the most famous of Rio's neighborhoods and traces a path through the history of Copacabana from the mid-nineteenth century to the present days, with photographs ranging from bucolic to chaos, revealing the multiple aspects of the princess of the sea.With images collected from various collections, the purpose of the exhibition is to merge classic and unknown angles around themes such as the discovery of the pleasures of the beaches, the paths of modernity and the waves of the boardwalk that eventually became the most important symbol of the neighborhood.Isabella Perrotta and CPDOC's professor, Julia O'Donnell, who is also the author of the book A Invenção de Copacabana (The Invention of Copacabana), published by Zahar Editora, are the curators of the show.The exhibition is free and open to the public from April 15 to May 16, in the street of Candelária, No. 6, in Rio de Janeiro.It is sponsored by the Ministry of Culture and Carioca Engenharia.
