FGV participates in OAS mission in Panama elections
Fundação Getulio Vargas’ Department of Public Policy Analysis (DAPP) was part of the Electoral Observation Mission of the Organization of American States (OAS) for the general elections in Panama, on May 5. The goal of the committee was to evaluate the work of monitoring social networks of the Panamanian electoral authority and to analyze its possible impact on the election. The mission, composed of 62 observers from 18 countries, was headed by former Colombian President Andres Pastrana.
“The work of monitoring the public debate on the Internet, developed in recent years by FGV DAPP, was of great importance for the understanding of the Panamanian electoral debate in social networks,” said FGV DAPP researcher Danilo Carvalho.
The contribution of FGV DAPP, based on the experience of the Digital Democracy Room – an initiative geared to the Brazilian elections of 2018 and visited by the Mission last year – will support the segment on media and social networks of the OAS technical report with the main conclusions and recommendations on the electoral process, such as the country’s organization, technology, and electoral justice.
