FGV Press launches work on sociologist Guerreiro Ramos
A unique thinker, Alberto Guerreiro Ramos, one of the most influential intellectuals in Brazil, promoted a revolution in Brazilian social sciences. He adopted a critical perspective on what he referred to as “canned sociology” and formulated a method of assimilation of foreign intellectual production, anticipating questions that today only prevail in the social science agenda.
The FGV Press, in partnership with the Federal Council of Administration, publishes the book Guerreiro Ramos: entre o passado e o futuro (“Guerreiro Ramos: between the past and the future”), organized based on two topics: “Sociology, periphery and postcolonial theory” and “Critical and political paraeconomic theory”. The connection between these axes establishes the links between the past and the future and reveals the innovative and pioneering character of the work of Guerreiro Ramos.
Even after his death in 1982, Guerreiro Ramos’ ideas remain current and increasingly necessary to rethink the country’s strategic goals and positions, with an emphasis on organizational change. This book rescues some of its most important contributions and helps to rethink Brazil from yesterday, today and tomorrow and to provide clarity on the public choices that define the new directions of the nation.
