FGV professor wins Intellectual of the Year Award ? Juca Pato Trophy

Luiz Carlos Bresser-Pereira, emeritus professor at FGV?s São Paulo School of Economics (EESP) and coordinator of the School?s Center for New Developmental Studies, won, unanimously, the Juca Pato Trophy for 2015. Bresser was nominated Intellectual of the Year at the last meeting, at the main office of the Brazilian Writer's Union (UBE).The Juca Pato Trophy is one of the most important intellectual awards in Brazil. The Intellectual of the Year Award is given to individuals who excelled in any field of knowledge and contributed to the development of the country. Professor Bresser-Pereira is one of the leading Brazilian intellectuals, and was awarded the prize unanimously and by acclamation. His work on Brazil's economic revolution is excellent and has had a great impact on the country, said UBE?s president, Durval de Noronha.The award refers to the professor?s contribution to the work entitled A Construção Política do Brasil: Sociedade, economia e Estado desde a Independência (Brazil?s Political Construction: Society, economy and State since its Independence), in 2014.The Juca Pato Trophy will be officially delivered at a solemn session on November 9, at the theater of the Brazilian Academy of Letters.
