FGV Projetos and Fecomércio-RJ launch map of trade in Brazil

In order to develop an overview on the commerce in the Brazilian economic scenario, identifying the key issues faced by the sector and pointing out its possible solutions, the Trade Federation of the State of Rio de Janeiro (Fecomércio-RJ) and FGV Projetos prepared the Strategic Map of Trade 2014-2020, launched yesterday (October 17th), at a ceremony in the city of Rio de Janeiro.The publication is divided into four sections, which deal with the socio-economic importance of trade, present the figures of the sector and contextualize the Brazilian economic scenario, in addition to a qualitative analysis of the potential factors that influence productivity, outlining strategies and bringing conclusive remarks.The study points out that, in the last ten years, the average growth of the Brazilian trade surpassed the Gross Domestic Product (GDP): while the GDP of the country increased around 3.6% from 2002 to 2012, the gross value added of the sector increased by 4.5%.Still according to the survey, trade, information services, the real estate activities and other services contributed with 37.9% of the Brazilian GDP in 2010, with a total of BRL 1.223 trillion. From that, BRL 404 billion corresponded only to trade.Increasing competitiveness in international rankings and increasing public investments in the sector are also measures outlined by the two entities in the document, which recommends investments in basic education and qualification, in addition to strengthening the macroeconomic stability and a better income distribution, with social promotion of the beneficiaries of government programs, in order to leverage the industry.Please click here to access the 2014-2020 Strategic Map of Trade (in Portuguese)
